Credit Cards and Holiday Frenzy

Last year at about this time, I had a little creative energy in me and perhaps a little holiday rum and egg nog and I wrote a little credit card christmas carol. You can read the Christmas credit card song here.

The holidays a joyous time of celebration and giving but it is crucial that you remember during your christmas shopping frenzy that you remember your household budget. Yes, it's wonderful to give but not at the expense of 18% and higher interest rates. Remember the joy you are experiencing now in spending up a is going to appear on your New Year credit card statement.

If you are in the mode of over-spending on Christmas shopping stop right now and start thinking of ways to save some money and provide a thoughtful gift.

One way to save some money is to give a gift such as "cookies in a jar", where you add the ingredients to make cookies with baking instructions in a nicely decorated jar. It's thoughtful and you made it. To top it off make a Christmas card to accompany the cookies in a jar and perhaps write a Christmas or inspiring poem or song. Or maybe include an act of service that you will give as a gift such as cleaning gutters or shoveling the driveway. Think about your recipients personality to come up with more acts of service that you could do to put a smile on their face.

I have seen far too many horrible stories of people getting into massive credit card debt over the holiday season and want to encourage you to save your financial future this holiday season by thinking creatively to save yourself from massive financial burdens in the new year.

If you have a money saving holiday gift idea please post your comments here. We do moderate all submissions so be patient while waiting for our staff to review the suggestions.
