I am very pleased with what Discover offers to students. They are a company who is working very hard to capture your business now. Typically, students stick with credit card companies for a lifetime if they are treated well and treating you well is what Discover is out to do.
You will earn cash back and rebates from simply using your Discover card. Note though that to reap the rewards to their fullest degree you need to pay your balance in full every billing cycle otherwise the rewards you earn will only make a slight dent in the interest payments. It is important to mention this as with most student cards there is typically a slightly higher interest rate as with little to no previous credit history you pose a risk to the card issuer. To compensate for the risk a credit card company will charge a higher interest rate. You can have your rates reduced over time if you pay your minimum balance on time and again I strongly urge that you pay your full balance each and every month to save yourself from the agony of credit overload at a young age.
